Muscle Relaxing Injections

Facial lines are caused by the repeated use of the facial muscles in a particular manner, and can make us look older and tired.Botulinim Toxin – ‘Botox’ injections are a safe and non-surgical treatment used to relax the muscles thus giving a fresher and more relaxed appearance. They are particularly effective on frown lines and crows feet.

Clients that have repeated treatment usually notice that their results get better with time, as it is difficult for the muscles to become strong again with repeated injections.

A full medical history and consent form is obtained before commencing the treatment. The injections themselves take only 5-10 minutes, but the first appointment make take 30-40 minutes to allow plenty of time for a full consultation. The injections start to take effect after 2-4 days, but up to 2 weeks for the maximum effect to be apparent. The results lasts 3-6 months.

Botulinium Toxin has been used for over 20 years to treat a variety of medical conditions, and when administered by a properly trained practitioner is a well-recognised and very safe treatment.

After treatment there may be a very slight red mark at the injection site, and occasionally a bruise may occur. Some clients experience a slight headache, particularly after their first procedure.

Botulinium Toxin injections can also be used to significantly reduce underarm sweating. The effects of this treatment can last 6-12 months.

Dermal fillers

Restylane/Juvederm are injectable clear gels. These are a non-animal product that contain hyaluronic acid, a substance already present in the skin.

Fillers are used to replenish lost volume and to plump up lines and wrinkles, such as nose to mouth lines, or from the corners of the mouth down to the jaw line, which can make us look sad! Lips can also be enhanced.

These products are very safe and have full F.D.A. approval. Allergic reactions are extremely rare. A patch test is not required.

The treatment entails a series of injections into the lines and depressions. A local anaesthetic cream is usually applied first as the treatment can cause some discomfort, although both these products are now available with lignocaine incorporated in them to make the procedure more comfortable. The results are instant although usually look better after a few days when the skin has settled down and any redness and swelling has subsidised. As with any injection a bruise may occur, but it is safe to apply make up to cover it.

Dermal Fillers can also be used to replace lost volume in the cheeks. As we age, facial fat tends to reduce, causing cheeks to sag. Injections into the cheek using Voluma, part of the Juvederm range can replace volume and restore a more youthful look.

The injections take about 15 minutes to complete, and a full consultation is given before treatment is commenced. Results last 6-12 months.
